Microsoft and Alphabet Lift the Nasdaq 0.6% Higher Tomorrow
We put the odds of a green Nasdaq close at 61% ahead of key evening cloud earnings.
We think Microsoft (MSFT) and Alphabet (GOOGL) trade higher through Wednesday's session, carrying the Nasdaq 100 up roughly 0.6%. The S&P 500 sits 0.33% above its 50-day average and 5.81% above its 200-day average in an established uptrend where 43% of the last 60 sessions closed green. Technology buyers are stepping in ahead of the closing bell to secure exposure to cloud infrastructure spending. Enterprise software demand is durable, and high-margin compute capacity continues to command firm contract pricing across corporate customers.
First, enterprise cloud spending is validating mega-cap capital investments. Microsoft (MSFT) heads into its evening report with Street models projecting Azure revenue growth near 29% in constant currency. At the same time, corporate data center migrations continue to channel software revenue to Alphabet (GOOGL), where Google Cloud operating margins are expected to approach 11% compared to single digits two years ago. The capital expenditure committed by these two balance sheets totals over $90 billion annually, and that spending immediately secures cash flow for infrastructure partners like Nvidia (NVDA) and cooling specialist Vertiv Holdings (VRT). We expect Microsoft (MSFT) to gain at least 0.8% and Alphabet (GOOGL) to advance 0.7% during regular market hours, pulling technology sector funds upward.
Second, established enterprise platforms with direct customer integrations are outperforming transactional hardware. International Business Machines (IBM) continues to see stable 6% to 8% software expansion led by its Red Hat infrastructure division, showing that corporate clients are actively funding hybrid cloud projects rather than halting technology work. Similarly, ServiceNow (NOW) reports after the close, where consensus looks for subscription revenue growth above 21%. Customers are consolidating point solutions into single enterprise portals to trim operating costs, which insulates ServiceNow (NOW) from general economic cooling. We expect International Business Machines (IBM) to add 0.6% and ServiceNow (NOW) to gain 1.0% before the bell as enterprise software multiples hold firm.
Third, industrial manufacturing and automotive sectors face sharp operational divergence. Ford Motor (F) reports after the bell with consensus operating profit modeled at $0.47 per share, but persistent warranty liabilities and price cuts across retail lots continue to compress automotive margins. Contrast that capital burden with Boston Scientific (BSX), which reports before the open and is projected to deliver over 14% organic revenue expansion driven by heart-device adoption. Capital-light medical technology continues to expand operating margins while metal-bending vehicle manufacturers face margin ceilings. We forecast Ford Motor (F) will drop 1.0% into the release, while Boston Scientific (BSX) advances 0.7%.
Our bullish index call would prove wrong if the 10-year Treasury yield jumps more than 8 basis points during morning trading, or if early software guidance from pre-market reporting names signals sudden enterprise budget cuts. A sustained drop in the Nasdaq 100 below its opening print by 11:00 AM ET would show that institutions prefer to de-risk completely before the evening mega-cap numbers.
