Technology Sector Leads Market Higher on Strong Earnings

Robust AI demand and strong enterprise software results will drive the S&P 500 up 0.4% tomorrow. We put the odds of a green S&P close at 63%.

We expect the S&P 500 to close up 0.4% tomorrow, with the Nasdaq 100 leading the gains by rising 0.7%. This positive momentum is driven by continued strength in technology earnings and persistent demand for AI-related infrastructure. The market's upward bias, even with ongoing macroeconomic uncertainties, highlights the sector-specific drivers currently dominating price action.

The core of tomorrow's bullish sentiment stems from the strong performance narratives emerging from the technology sector. Alphabet (GOOGL) is poised for a strong session, likely rising by at least 1.5% as its Google Cloud division continues to demonstrate accelerating growth. This follows a pattern seen across enterprise software, where companies like Microsoft (MSFT) are benefiting from robust demand for AI-integrated solutions such as Copilot. Microsoft is projected to gain at least 1.0%, indicating sustained corporate IT spending and a healthy enterprise technology environment. This strength confirms that the AI investment cycle is deepening beyond just hardware, flowing into software and cloud services, translating directly into higher revenues and profit expectations for these companies. We expect this to directly lift the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) by 0.9%.

Semiconductor demand remains a powerful tailwind, with Nvidia (NVDA) expected to trade positive by 2.0%. This reflects ongoing hyperscaler capital expenditure into AI and continued optimism regarding its next-generation GPU platforms. Similarly, ASML Holding (ASML), a key supplier of advanced lithography equipment, is likely to gain 1.2%, signaling strong capital investment from chip manufacturers to meet future demand. These component-level strengths underpin the entire AI build-out, providing critical support for the Nasdaq 100 (NDX) to lead market gains. Investors are looking past general economic concerns and focusing on companies with clear AI monetization strategies and strong execution.

While the market leans bullish, a significant upside surprise in the US 10-year Treasury yield (US10Y) could alter the trajectory. If the 10-year yield were to move above 4.70% on unexpected hawkish commentary from Federal Reserve officials or stronger-than-anticipated inflation data, it could introduce downward pressure on equity valuations, especially for high-growth technology names. However, our base case is for yields to ease slightly, further supporting the technology-led rally.
